Project Architects Randy Dolph, Matt Burr and Senior Interior Designer Erin Bilz with McCarthy Construction led a construction tour of our new Math & Science Building for Mesa College Design students and their professors. It was an exciting experience for students to see an up close view with real design and construction lessons on campus. Mimi Moore, head of the Mesa College Interior Design Dept. was excited to be one of the first professors to see it and gave it rave reviews.

Matt Burr joined Delawie in 2003, and has ten years of professional experience. He is currently working on the construction administration for the SDCCD Mesa College Mathematics and Science Building.

Delawie hosted another successful blood drive last month with a mobile unit parked in front of our office in Little Italy. We had 32 participants – surpassing our previous goals  which was exceptional considering the flu season. Look for future news for our next event this summer. It’s a great cause and we are happy to support our staff and their families!

Delawie congratulates Geoff Ward for obtaining his California architectural license. Geoff is a graduate of Kent State University and has been with the firm a total of four years.  Experiences include both new construction and renovation projects in office, hospitality, education, and civic sectors. Geoff has extensive experience in BIM delivery methods, construction document management, 3D modeling, and project management. Prior to his architectural experience, Geoffrey served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Currently 40% through construction,the SDCCD Mesa College Mathematics and Science Building is about a month from completing the exterior skin. This building will house several schools, including math, biology, chemistry, physical sciences, administrative functions, and a student support center. Spaces will include standard and congressional-style classrooms, offices, laboratories, lab preparation and support spaces. Specialty spaces will include a greenhouse, and astronomy observation area. Dr. Roger Hewitt, Assistant Director of Southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC) gave Delawie a private tour of the National Oceanic & Atmosphere Administration (NOAA) Lab Consolidation Project that is just finishing construction. See complete project description here.

Andrew Rodrigues joined Delawie in 1982 and has more than 38 years of experience in a wide range of project types. He specializes in the management of large, complex, fast track projects. Andrew was promoted to principal in 1987.

Rodrigues’ work has received numerous design recognitions including Orchid Awards for the San Miguel Fire District Headquarters and the MTS / James R. Mills Building. The latter project received a National Urban Land Institute Award of Excellence and an AIA California Council Honor Award.

Originally from Illinois, McGuire currently resides in Chula Vista with his wife and their five children.
David Mann has been involved for the past eight years with the firm’s Hospitality & Entertainment Studio, working on projects like the Marriott Edition Hotel renovation in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Hotel Solamar and Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego, and most recently the 250 room Legoland Hotel in Carlsbad. Joining the firm in 2000, Mann also has experience with Delawie’s Corporate and Life Sciences Studio, working on many biotech and corporate projects. Mann earned his Bachelor’s of Architecture and B.S. in Environmental Design at Ball State University. He has been a licensed California architect for 20 years, becoming a LEED Accredited Professional in 2010.
