UCSD ACL-2 Mosquito Insectary

An arthropod containment level-2 (ACL-2) laboratory is tailored to accommodate advanced instrumentation for handling biological agents. The UCSD mosquito insectary stands as an isolated and secure operational zone, specifically designed to nurture insects with the highest standards of biosafety.

Comprising three prefabricated insect-rearing chambers, a larval rearing area, and a microscopy workspace, the insectary enforces stringent access controls including cardkey, iris scan, and an airlock system.

Within this facility, researchers are ensured a secure and controlled setting featuring regulated humidity, temperature with day/night lighting cycles, all contributing to a protected environment for pioneering mosquito-related studies.
